Obon and dinner outing

During Obon week, similar to qing ming/ ghost festival where spirits of ancestors/beloved are believed to come back and visit. Graves are to be visited and pray for the spirits.

This is my 1st time going to a cemetery in Japan. Did not take any photos as i do not wish to offend any spirits nor bring 'extra' back. My mum went backpacking in eastern Europe few years ago, she went to jewish cemetery and take photos of the cemetery like a typical tourist would. However, during her sleep she felt something is strangling her neck, she tried to shout and move to wake her friend up but she couldn't at all. The next day, she immediately deleted the photos taken at cemetery. So i rather not take any chances at all.

Few things that strike me is that, the grave is multi purpose grave meant for whole family. Meaning you can put family deceased names in 1 grave. In this instance, shota's family have 3 deceased names engrave on the side of the grave, with their ashes placed together in the grave. In the future, this will be the same grave for me and shota as well.

I noticed some of graves have statue of child at the side and was wondering about it. Shota said it means that this family had lost their child or baby hence the statue of the child. I hoped our family won't ever encounter that.

After that, we went to my favourite soba shop in Aomori to have lunch. Its was even better than i remembered. I am really thankful to have wonderful parents in law and obaachan concerning about me and how i can adapt to their world. In Singapore, you really have to count your blessings to have this type of in laws. Too many horror stories that really make you question if it is worth marrying or being single is better actually.

We drove back to Misawa and Bao & Kristi brought dinner over. They sure had cooked a feast! Its was soooooo delicious and i can imagine all the time and effort spent! My mouth is watering and stomach is growling as i type lol. Thank you Bao & Kristi for preparing such wonderful meal! Next time will be our turn!! or least shota's turn -p
