Went down to 久慈市 taking 3 hours drive (Kuji, Iwate prefecture) which was partly devastated by tsunami. I had never been to the area before and had S not told me, i would not have notice which area had been devastated before. Simply because those area became flat land, all the ruins had been cleared. As we drove further down, all the empty lands which used to have houses, street names were just categorized as district 1, 2 ,3 and was left untouched since surviving ones had moved to stay somewhere else. Seeing in person left such an impact for me, it takes at least 30-40 mins to drive to coast area yet the tsunami was able to destroy most within this huge vicinity. I once again learnt to appreciate how Singapore is surrounded by other islands and therefore protected by natural disasters.
