Teaching Chicken Rice @ Misawa International Center

Upon requested by my ex Japanese sensei in Misawa International Center, I held a class on how to cook Singapore style chicken rice. My sensei heard that I taught the class for one of elementary school (also requested by the school) and thought of asking me. I accepted but was worried..... My method was so simple and mainly only required rice cooker, my knife skill sucks and yet I have to teach in front of those seasonal housewives who cook daily??!! I made S came with me as he was a better cook and I could count on him if I cock up (Singlish, it meant if I screw anything up) :P...

Right even before few weeks of the class, I was kinda of hoping the class will be cancel (due to low enrolment rate haha!). That day was even a typhoon day!! I was thinking if there will be no show as the rain and wind was crazy, even the main car park at Misawa International Center was flooded! In the end 12-13 people came to attend my class!

As I was the teacher, had no time to take pictures at all, there were a few hiccups while I was demonstrating but thankfully it did not affect the taste of Chicken Rice. I also brought along stuff from Singapore to show them while we waited 40 minutes for the rice cooker to cook and they sipped on Kopi O (3 in 1 coffee from Indonesia but its well known in Singapore, anyway that's the closest we can get in Japan haha).

Overall pretty good! They like the Chicken Rice and commented it was easy to make, one even asked if I was holding another class next time! Hmm.... Have to consider haha!! Most were unsure what was Singapore style food and they had a different impression of it so this dish was kinda of surprise for them.

The rest of cleaning and clearing up was done by my teacher and her assistant as they were the in charge for organising the class. I (We) had a great time!

Autumn @ Lake Towada

S's good friend came to visit! Brought him to Lake Towada to view autumn leaves change. Little did we know it was the start of the peak season for Lake Towada. There were tour buses, tourists everywhere! Stuck in the jam (only 1 road anyway) on the way up to Lake Towada. Could not even stop like we normally did in the past to take pictures along Oirase gorge.  We could but the look of the crowd of tourists made us tired lol... Finding parking spot would jam the cars waiting behind. Wanted to board the ferry but next timing was a hour later and we had eaten our lunch so ended up walking around and buy the famous apple pie! Even the cafe was crowded and we just ordered apple pie to go.

Nagisa Cafe @ Hachinohe

As S was away , he tasked my mil to come and look after me. Went to Hachinohe and recommended my mil Nagisa cafe which she would like. Delicious food, plenty of vegetables and nice atmosphere. Its best to go before 12pm though as the cafe is always packed. Like this time we went, barely any parking spaces left and cafe was mostly taken by a group of ladies doing arts and craft activity. Before reaching the cafe, even though we inputted the address in the car GPS, when the car navi told us to take another turn, I thought it was wrong and told my mil to go other way. Reason was the first time we (S and I) went, I found the old address and it lead us to unknown area. Hence I thought I did it again lol (giving old address). Kept making turns and going in circles without success.

Ended up we asked a postman and realised my direction (according to my past memory lol quite long time ago) was wrong and the address was correct. Felt bad as my mil was the driver :p.

Season special! Korean style tofu hotpot! You can grind and pour the chilli flakes as you want.

香港ダイニング 十和田市 (Hong Kong Dining @ Towada)

Pestered S to bring me to a cafe in Towada but it was closed!! Duh... Lousy magazine that did not state it in detail. We were driving around looking for new cafe with no luck. Even on our way to Shichinohe and S spotted a Hong Kong Chinese restaurant. Kinda of sceptical, even thinking was it just a typical Chinese restaurant. The interior looked classy and the chef's pictures were hanged around the wall. Seemed like he originally was a chef in Towada Hotel and went to Hong Kong for training (or competition). Thereafter started his own restaurant.

We ordered the dim sum set lunch @ 1500 yen and wow!! It was pretty authentic, same if not better what I can get back home. So happy!! The best was the lotus sesame ball, crispy yet non greasy on the surface and chewy with lotus paste on the inside. Tasting that good that we made up our mind to eat expensive dinner set next time S is free.

Lunch: 11.30am - 2pm
Dinner: 5.30pm - 8.30pm
Closed on Monday & first Sunday of every month

American Day 2017 @ Misawa

For the past years American Day had been held in June but not sure due to what reason it had been changed to October. I felt it was a good move as in June cos its past 11 plus the weather became hot and intolerable to walk long under the heat. October is much cooling! Felt this year parade was shorter as well... maybe I was wrong.

Yakiniku Day

My parents in law came to visit us and we had yakiniku party in our house! Brought the meat from Misawa local meat house and the meat tasted heavenly! We (S and I) never brought meat there as local poultry are expensive. Not for everyday consumption type.

Okaasan's salad

She made this as well!

Wild Weasels' Bar & Grill on Base

Weasel Bar was newly opened few months ago on base, selling american style food. Made S went with me just before my base pass expired. By random luck we were brought to a table where surrounding 2 tables were S's colleagues and boss! Misawa is really too small to do any bad stuff, one would be caught easily lol.

Every table were served with free flow of potato chips and the main dishes like the burgers, ribs and pizza etc.. were kinda of big serving. I ordered the ribs and it tasted good. S was struggling to finish his huge burger like food fighter in a eating contest and the look on his face was hilarious. We were used to Japanese portions (well... getting old that our appetite became smaller), not to mention we order sides and snacking on those free potato chips.

I forgot about the tipping system and how each waiter had specific tables to serve on. S was shaking his head when I randomly called for bill from a waitress not serving our table. We were supposed to ask for bill from the waiter that served us and the tip should belong to him. Thankfully, our waiter came with our bill and we tipped him then.

Only open on Fri - Sun nights ( For dining 5pm - 10pm, bar 5pm - 12am)
