Fren's Visit

Invited my friends to our new house. Yes! We shifted to our own house recently. Considered my first good Japanese friend that I often hang out with in Misawa. However they only stayed here for 9 months and her husband was transferred to Okinawa :(

Gift for us, glow in the dark glass from Okinawa

Fukuoka instant noodles and Germany wine

Even gave me mango from Okinawa! So big and sweet!

Sad to say, they are leaving soon!

My Cooking

Cooked myself when S was away for his annual mountain trip. My mum commented why most ingredients the same. Of course it was too much to eat in one meal and too wasteful to throw away the remaining and buy new vegetables so I just cook different dishes instead.

Radish Soup

Potato salad, cucumber from garden

Bittergourd with spam (lunchon meat)

milk based with salmon

Lesson 2: Cooking Class

This school has a special request: to conduct cooking class. It was either a choice between chicken rice or laksa. As both ingredients can get easily at the mall including the sauce. In the end, we (S and I) agreed that Chicken Rice is the better choice. Laksa is spicier (kids might not able to take it) and there were certain ingredients kids might be allergic to (like prawns, coconut milk).

I found the recipe for Chicken Rice just using rice cooker and all easy ingredients that typical Japanese family would have. Furthermore, I cooked couple of times to try out the recipe. Of course its nothing like the real Chicken Rice back home but similar (weaker version hahaha).

My class consisted 4th graders to 6th graders, all of them were used to having cooking class. Dividing up work between themselves, few washed the rice, others washed the cutting board etc... Quite astonished as we only start to having cooking lesson from Secondary 1 onward (13 years old).

Only 6th graders were allowed to use the knife to chop the chicken. Turned out to be success! Seemed like everyone liked the taste! They also cooked for 1st graders - 3rd graders, sending the bowls to their classes.

As for the teachers, they also made a small portion and gave it all the teachers in the school.

Lesson @ Second School

Went to second school to share about Singapore. This school was much smaller than first school, only 46 students across primary 1 - primary 6. So naturally this time the class was held in the hall with everyone in it instead of individual class. My class started from 10.35am and i reached before 10am and ate my breakfast in the car. Since I had ample time, I leisurely made my way to the entrance. To my shock, I found the principal waiting for me at the entrance (that was around 10.10am), while we walked towards the hall, everyone was waiting for me. !!!!!

Turnout out that teacher in charge remembered the wrong time and thought the class started from 10.05am instead but I was very worried that they (teachers and principal) made the assupmption that I was late. In the initial meeting one of teacher specifically requested me not to be late and I replied with confidence that she need not worry. Then there I was late!

I repeatedly mentioned about it during the break and after the class ended and even show them that the paper stated it was from 10.35 am. I did not make a mistake and I was not late. Luckily the teacher in charge explained to the remaining teachers and once again to the principal and I felt better after that.

Hot Hot Summer

Recently the weather been so hot that its impossible to stay in the house or sleep at night without air con. Did not want to go everywhere or even step out the house (that's also impossible since I have to bring Hideji for his walk). My friend and Okaasan said aren't you from Singapore.... This weather should be fine with you. Well the truth is Singapore has shelter and trees to shade us from the sun (not everywhere) but at least in residential areas, to schools, to bus stations etc. Since our housing are public high rise apartments, we can pass through the apartments and pick the path that will be mostly shelter all the way to our destination. Especially where my house located, I can take LRT (Light Rapid Transit) just 2 minutes walking distance (sheltered) and change to MRT (underground so confirm no sun lol).

In Japan no such thing....... Everywhere you walked, you will be exposed to the glaring sun, no place to hide for shelter along the way. The moment you step out of the house, you will wish you won't have to go out lol....

The moment I opened the window, he would check outside.

Wonder what he was looking... also nobody outside lol...
