Drove to Hirosaki to visit Mt. Iwaki....shrines! Its his field trip to collect research for his essay and he chose to write about mountain shrines. At that time, little did i know this research ignite his interest in a brand new hobby....
The first shrine we visited was the Iwakiyama shrine, which is one of shrines regard Mt. Iwaki as god (Kami). According to Hirosaki tourism website, the shrine was built approximately 1,200 years ago with some of the oldest wood having withstood the snow and wind for over 390 years. The interesting point is there are other shrines located in different parts of Mt. Iwaki and they actually are related and represented the mountain god. During the Mt.Iwaki Pilgrimage [Oyamasankei] in autumn, they will carry the god (kami) to the top of the mountain shrine.
