American Day in Misawa

Finally get a chance to watch the American Day parade this year! It was much bigger than i anticipated. Last year i had missed it since i just came back from Tokyo and by the time we arrived, it was after noon and was freaking hot that we went back after half hour. This time we arrived since 9am and the parade started from 9.45am, plenty of time to tour around in leisure. When the parade stated, i had never seen such big group of Harley-Davidson motorcycles in my life. It almost seemed endless! It was really interesting and entertaining to watch and after the parade ended, some of the owners parked their motorcycles to showcase to the visitors. So fun! Can't wait for next year!

Rob Photons in Hachinohe

Kristi discovered there's a French and Canadian restaurant called Rob Photons that sell Vietnamese pho on facebook page : "Misawa Eats". That page is so awesome since many will posted their dining experience and discovery near Misawa on the page and easy for us to explore new dining places! So off we went and with the help of mighty GPS it was easy to find. There are only 3 parking spots in front of the restaurant so its better to go early.

I guessed the interior concept is based on the restaurant that the Japanese owner ate in Canada (accordingly to someone's comment on facebook). There were several type of phos with different ingredients and me being greedy, ordered the deluxe version that contained all the ingredients! It was huge but i ate everything hehe! Too much a glutton! Slurp slurp, the soup was enticing  that i drank all up and usually i am very picky with soup. Will be back w S next time! He's been craving to eat it as well!

Here is the website and facebook if you wish to know the menu and directions:

first of all, to order from the vending machine

interior very western feel

my delxue set at 1480yen, 2 sauces are given for you to add at own preference

Japan VS Singapore Soccer match 0 - 0

Ever since S knew the match between 2 countries, he always said can't wait to see Spore being beaten up by Japan and it will be タコ殴り (which meant watching a octopus (Japan) beating up Spore Team. Last week the match came and he was in such anticipation, rushing us to complete our stuff so we would be in time to catch it live. I had zero interest in soccer and knowing we had no chance of wining anyway so i watched along reluctantly. Boy luckily i did not missed it otherwise i would have missed out excellent ball saves by the Lions and lousy performance and strikes by Samurai. While i was jumping in enjoying or wiping off imaginary sweat when the Samurai failed to make a goal, he was cursing and frowning beside me lol!

In the end, it turnout to be a draw and Singapore Team currently is the top with most points for 2018 World Cup secondary qualification!

Hehehe! Never say never!

Camp Aomori

This year i have been going to several camp's open house, this time we went to Camp Aomori. As usual, S was waiting in anticipation upon the date of arrival and kept rushing me to leave the house. This time we went with my father in law as well and i only realised that the camp was quite near to his new working place. It was raining when we were on our way but thankfully the sky cleared up when we reached the destination.

Their demonstration was very exciting with 3 helicopters flying around and tanks engaged in explosion. Few kids ended up crying due to sudden and loud explosions. Overall it was very entertaining and we arrived at the right time. In previous trips we reached early and ended up having to wait 1 hour or more and i ended up getting tired and impatient. If there is somewhere to sit then its not so bad but there were few seats and usually occupied. I had learnt to bring my big trash plastic bag to use as a mat lol. Felt embarrassed but it was light and able to fold inside my small bag, much better than having to carry heavy mat all around.

New Fire Station

My father in law was transferred to a new fire station months ago and became of the one of the chief in charge! In the past, he used to bike to his old workplace and for past 5-7 years, he was in charge of the command centre where citizens call in the hotline and report the emergency or fire incident. The new fire station is located much farther away and he can be part of active fire fighting crew in command again! He seemed to be much happier in the new workplace and brought us there for a visit.
When we toured around the fire station, i realised the neighbourhood are all new buildings including residential areas and supermarkets even this fire station is new. The best thing is there's a bunk room with a bed that they can rest now. The old fire station i seen did not have a room or beds for fire-fighters to rest which i felt it was ridiculous.

New discovery

Recently S's colleagues been raving about the eggs sold in a vending machine just outside POL gate. Out of curiosity, we went to checkout and sold the biggest set 8 eggs for 200 yen. The vending machines sell 3 different types: 15 eggs for 200 yen (small), 10 eggs (medium) or 8 eggs (large). We randomly brought the biggest set to try since usually supermarket sold 10 eggs for around 230 yen. To our delight, every single egg has double egg yolks! S started to have raw egg with rice every morning for breakfast since then. He is raving how delicious it tasted and can't stop eating even though in the past he did not like eating raw with rice. So far i have yet to taste a full double egg yolk (just a bite from his rice that's all) since he has been eating non-stop daily.

Think its going to be hard for us to switch back to regular supermarket eggs now!

S prepared okinawa ramen super delicious!

Hamazushi in Misawa

Last week a brand new sushi resturant that provide affordable sushi arrived in Misawa! Yay don't have to drive to Hachinohe if have other option instead of going to kappa sushi. Of course kappa sushi is good but at times their menu is quite limited.
When we arrived at Hamazushi, we were taken aback by the long queue but the queue moved fast, much faster than expected. Since we were famished, we didn't spend time reading the instructions    Lol.
Good point: plenty of choices with maki, sushi were delicious, lots of seats.

Bad point: the belt will go 1 round from the 1st table including ordered items. Sometime when the waiting time gets long and the ordered item came and other customers that did not read the menu (like us) will assumed it's us and we took it lol. ( we ordered the same item  but didn't know that our monitor will "beep" and announce it's arrival. Without that, it meant it's other customers. We did that only once. We were the 1st table when new sushi came out so means the last table have to wait longer and in worst case, their item might be taken by others.
Next to our table was another roll last table, the poor Japanese man kept cursing in Japanese since his orders never came and he had to keep calling the staff. ( I think it's taken by others lol)
I will continue patronizing for its variety of sushi choices!
