Chinese Food Feast for class!

Been skipping my classes close to a month due my cough, this absence became contagiousness and I intended to skip again.... However my classmate told me there's a cooking class instead and my chinese classmate told me they are making dumpling so I have to come. Unable to resist their invitation, I went.

When I reached early, they were already in the kitchen preparing the ingredients, chopping the vegetables and meat. I was busy taking their pictures. I started to help when they need more hands washing the dirty dishes and making the dumplings. Never seen the dumplings made from scratch in live and they were shaking their heads when I folded and sealed the dumplings. Heard in China, its very common for family to make dumplings at home.

Frankly speaking, the process of making the dumplings really need effort, the more people to help the better. 1 was kneading the dough, 2 were flattening the dough to make the skin, 3 were putting the meat into the skin and sealing it. We (the main chef actually) also made other 2 dishes. All the cooking took close to 1 1/2 hours.

Their food was quite spicy but not unbearable, our Japanese teachers thought its was too spicy especially the spinach and tofu. I love all of it and was eating non-stop until my voice changed. Even took the dumplings home for next day breakfast!

See! Alot of effort

Part time Job - First School Part 2

As my cold had recovered pretty well, I went ahead with my original plan like meeting up my friend, going to second school meeting. Guess what.... My cold came back and I lost my voice. It was super bad and I went to see the doctor again.

That week I had to teach 3 days of class, I could have cancelled but I did not want to disappoint the school and students. Not sure if they will reschedule another time and so I went ahead even though I was sure they barely understood my coarse voice. Felt so bad! The next 2 days were much better (still pretty bad but compared to the first day it was nothing).

As part of art and craft, I teach them how to make Ketupat. Honestly speaking, it was difficult even for me and I tried doing it for many times before presenting to the students. It was a disaster... I miscalculated the time required and 5th graders (the first class to try it) would not make it at all. 6th graders had it better but still impossible for them. Towards my last day (4th graders), I had discussed with school to drop the idea of making Ketupat and to make a simpler item.

Surprisingly, my 4th graders (its a small school so they knew what other graders were doing in my class) insisted on doing Ketupat. One said if their class could make it then it meant they are cooler than other graders lol! Ketupat looked really pretty and she would like to try it.

In the end, I had a voting session and majority opted to make Ketupat! In fact they were the only class, a few were able to complete Ketupat closer to the end! In fact, their form teacher learnt it within my class and was making a few for them lol! So impressive!

Part time Job - First School Part 1

I was allocated to 3 schools and the first school was the furthest away (40 minutes drive). My program coordinator wanted me to find song that the kids can sing and dance. I found an English song and was rejected as she preferred it in other language as it was similar what they are doing for English class. As they had instructor from China before, I went to search easy Malay song then. She also required me to find Singapore "traditional" dance and I said I can't dance. I can't even dance let alone traditional dance.

The first day of my class (4 classes that day) I was full of anti-caption and nervous, not sure what to expect. I was asked to seat in the principal office while class representatives would come and announced their arrival and invite me to their class in English. They looked as nervous as I was haha! Few forgot what they were supposed to say in English but they relaxed once I spoke Japanese to me. As they lead the way, they were whispering to each other about me and I looked at them and said I can understand Japanese haha! They were all so adorable!

Really enjoyed it!! So new and exciting!

P.s when i told S abt the part, some kids would said she knows Japanese, he said its not a good meaning for me. It meant as a warning to the rest she knows Japanese so we better not say anything bad in front of her thinking she did not understand lol....

Each side of flowers were taken care by each class

All of them have to change to other shoes meant only in the school. Even teachers have to change, including me.

Part Time Job

Started my part time job recently as instructor for cultural education for Misawa elementary school students. Randomly called by my ex Japanese teacher and asked me if I was interested to showcase Singapore in the class. Each lesson lasted for 45 minutes and I need not speak in Japanese, all English. I was very keen and said yes.  Past 2 months were busy preparing the class lesson and getting all the materials, toys to mail from Singapore. My poor parents and brother were running around to buy all the stuff  (like merlion, hari ray decorations, chapteh etc..). Mailing to Japan costed a bomb! $150 sin but it got here on the 3rd day so it was worth it.

P.S still recovering but getting better :) Below pictures show how I felt this past 3 weeks.

drowsy.... sleeping....

too tired to do anything...

Another Singaporean in Misawa

Recently someone left comment in my blog stating she is Singaporean and newly arrived in Misawa. Asked her how come she saw my blog and she said she saw the facebook post I made in Misawa group. She never thought there's also another Singaporean staying here haha!

When I picked her up, I felt she was the mirror image of me. (of course not in appearance). She stayed off base, cannot drive, cannot speak Japanese (I can but not enough). Nice to hear singlish and speak half English and Chinese. One point she is better than me is that she started to learn cooking while I only learnt when Shota was away. She has been cooking almost daily for herself and her bf. Bravo for her!

Below pictures not related to the post hahah!

Vegetables buffet at the farm. It was a monday but kids in Hachinohe were having day off due to sports day on sunday. Waited 45 minutes before its our turn. Even encountered the nurse from blood donation centre with her child.

Love the buffet

this is at Rob Photons in Hachinohe. Tried their rice (600 yen) as sandwich (too messy), pho (too much and expensive). This I felt was meh, too much rice, only 2 prawns, the rest just minced meat.

Sick.... don't feel like blogging

Been sick for past 2 weeks, was actually on the recovery. Guess I was too confident and exhausted myself out that I fall sick again on Friday. Saturday became no voice, sounded like a duck now. The main culprit was the spicy calbee potato chips I got my brother to send. I told him to get small packets but he went and got me 3 or 4 big packets. I ate 1 packet over the span of 5 days? Next week became sick lol......

If I'm not working that would have been fine. But I need to work tomorrow, hope i will (or my voice) will be better tomorrow..... sobsobsob

Did not dare to tell my brother about this as I was afraid he might not want to send me next time lol...

My all time favourite, can't quit it at all!
