Aomori bday Treat

Obaachan treated us tempura soba for lunch, not sure why but S went crazy. He ordered the same set meal, added additional soba and egg rice. I was looking at him with my jaw dropping to the ground. We did not do anything that call for such "healthy" appetite. At night, my parents in law brought us expensive sushi restaurant, where it costed few times more than the usual cheap sushi place we love but the taste...... so good.... !! Thank you!!

Birthday Treat

Went to North 40-40 to celebrate my birthday, as usual their cuisine was superb! At night, we went to our favourite yakitori place for our dinner. Throughout the dinner time, S's face changed between anger to rolling his eyes or clenching his fist. Being puzzled, i asked him what's wrong. Turned out that there was a husband and wife sitting behind me and the wife was facing S. During the whole 2 hours that we were there, the wife was constantly talking non stop in her high pitched and too kawaii tone. S said if she was in her 20s it was fine since that's the way Tokyo girls speaked in their 20s, however, she probably should be in her 40s and looked like auntie lol.... Too bad i couldn't turnaround and see since it was too obvious. It's quite rare to see him constantly mood switching for whole 2 hours haha!

All thanks to Unagi Day =(

29th July 2014 was Doyo No Ushi No Hi (土用の丑の日) dedicated to eating unagi (うなぎ). Japanese believe that the best season to eat unagi is during the summer season as it  helps  in oppressing summer’s  heat and humidity. To our misfortune ever since we ate unagi on that day, our nightmare had started. Both of us had diarrhoea for several days, went to Aomori hospital emergency room due to fever, fighting for 1 toilet in the house and none of us had energy to do anything beside sleeping. Poor S had it worse as he had diarrhoea for 5 days while i recovered on the 3rd day. We won't be looking at unagi for quite a long while in the near future i guess!

this was not the unagi we ate lol.. just ramen

Rice Field Art @ Inakadate (田舎館村)

Inakadate is a small village which had a population of around 8000 people in Aomori Prefecture. They are famous for with their rice paddy art which attracted visitors every summer. They were reported by the local news and i pointed out to him that i wish to visit the stunning artwork. And so we went which took us 2 1/2 hours to drive all the way there. i was napping almost throughout the journey since we woke up since 6am to head out. Well... I have a tendency to fell asleep in various modes of transportation easily which annoy him easily. The rice paddy art was located in 2 different locations within the village and it was so impressive to see it in person. They used different type of rice which consisted of different colours to enhance the image they created. From this article link below, it was said that it took 1,200 of the local villagers to create. Its was worth the trip of us suffering 35ºC under the scorching sun.

Japan Maritime Self Defence Force

My father in law and S both got selected to board on the cruiser in Hachinohe. They were allowed to bring 1 more person each so i went along. My mother in law had sea sickness and hence didn't join us. Beside being able to tour the cruiser, it will also leave the harbour and navigate around the sea for a hour. I had never board Singapore navy ship and it turned out my 1st time was given by Japanese maritime side. Although it was a hot and sunny day, we underestimated how cold the sea wind was going to be and most of us were on the decks viewing the scenery. Luckily big blankets were given out by the JMSDF but on a funny note, all of us were huddling in the orange blankets which looks like we were just being rescued from a shipwreck.
