Ch’iao Rope Rescue Competition 2018 @ Kaohsiung

S was invited to join ARA (Aomori Research Activities) as team translator which he readily accepted. I was roped in as the competition will be held in Taiwan and none of them knew Chinese. Therefore I could assist in logistics and hotel etc...

A chance to be away from baby and to eat local food, oh ya! Taiwan here I come! Did months of research to ensure lodging, transportation, hotel, compeition locations to ensure no hiccups.

Took budget air line (Peach) from Sendai Airport and it was not easy to get there. Drove go Hachinohe to board bus (3-4 hours) to Sendai main area, board train (20 minutes) to airport. S was concerned about me during the long bus journey. Like he was expecting me to complain about the ride. Eh.... how many times I have to take hours of bus ride to Malaysia (custom jam, bus brokedown) stuck don’t know how long...To be frank, i was dozing off majority of the time, like usual lol.

Dinner @ BISTRO Ahiru(Duck) 食堂 (Oirase)

Only open for dinner, closed on Tue.

Awarded (by me haha) best gastronomic discovery of 2018. Took me 5 years to discover a hidden gem! Everything we ate was good... so good! Its was a girl’s night out on a Monday night.  Many restaurants in Misawa was closed (thankfully! I would not have found here otherwise).
All the menu was written on the board, it was difficult to understand the handwriting and we squinting and frowning what it would be. No pictures for reference and we tried showing past dishes appeared in google but the staff said it was seasonal. So half we left it up to them.
Delighted that the suspense was worth it. Must bring S here!! Must go for date night!

When the staff recommended this as salad, we assumed (since no picture to refer) that its with greenies. To our surprise, came peach with bayonne ham as salad?! Quite apprehensive yet it lingered in our mouth and complimented other dishes. Became my must order “salad”

Farm Cafe Orta @ Towada

Saw their cafe in the magazine and been wanting to go. this cafe has fheir own cafe so certain months they only opened during weekends. I usually go on weekdays to discover they were closed.
We were early and was asked to wait since we did not make reservations. However while we were waiting for 10-15 minutes outside, we saw 2 pairs of customers went in and got seated (they did not looked like they had reservations). We decided to go in and sat in the last empty table (luckily we did that as next couple customers were waiting for a long while outside).
Lunch set only 2 choices available with different sauce of spaghetti. Nothing much to rave about.

Overall was not impressed by them, be it food or service.
Maybe dinner might be better since they are always featured in local magazines.

Located in Hachinohe. Splendid spread and serving with homemade dessert! Kid friendly (confirmed with the owner). Slightly on pricy side around 1500yen - 1600 yen for lunch set however its well worth the price. Might be too much for small eaters.
Need to wait slightly long for the food but time flies when there are a good conversation partner

Now i can blog more often... hopefully hahaha. I no longer use my laptop unless i need to backup stuff.

Hideji went along with us. Front passenger this time

This town is famous for scallops hence all sorts of scallops dishes

ハピたのカフェ @ Towada (Kid friendly cafe)

Went to submit A’s passport application in Towada and went to a kid friendly cafe so we can bring others if their food os good. Unlike last time, now I will pay attention if there’s baby chair, the seat can put baby car seat anot.. is it child friendly environment and toilet got kid changing panel anot lol....

Very big difference, not all places welcome kids but yet I wish to bring A out. Alittle far though since its in Towada and no free parking. Had to park at the paid carpark so unless there are matters to be done otherwise I doubt I will come here. Food was really good though but minus point for the parking.

Misawa Base Air Festival 2018

Rain Rain go away....
Why do you come without fail every year on this event!

Due to recent big earthquake in Hokkaido, JSDF and US Air Force cancelled their plane demonstration. Bad weather, no demonstrations, lesser planes on display and fewer stalls... Boooo

Thankfully not all was lost, we went in early and managed to see the display planes interior. Never went in before as I refused to join in the long lineup haha. This year Fire station booth was up and it was awesome! They had a water dunk booth that get to dunk the firefighters if they hit the target. All kids, big and small even the elders were itching to try!

Uni uni uni!!!!

Rented car and drove down to Tanesashi coast to devour on uni. Was fully prepared to wait a long time for it as we went during obon period. True enough, the crowd was crazy and I had difficulty looking for an empty lot. In the end I parked at a hostel type of lodging house and asked for permission with the owner. Wanted to pay but the kind owner said its ok :)!!!!

Thankfully did not waited long as most were finishing up. My cousin had been anticipating the meal since i had been raving all along. Last year I could only eat the cooked uni and was unsatisfied. This year thanks to my cousin, she treated me to raw uni set (3500 yen). She also declared its best uni she ever ate and could never eat any uni back in Singapore... hehe told u!

Her vacation was like my vacation. Thanks to her, i had help walking with my dog, taking care bb while S n my in laws were away. She paid for almost everything during her stay with me. Quite paiseh about it.

热闹的生日

My 2nd time writing since the previous one was deleted when the app crashed.... sighh....

This year birthday had my family and friends celebrating with me! Surprised me with the cake and that was my first birthday “cake” in Japan! Usually we only buy a slice since we could not finish. Appreciated their gesture but if only i was more presentable haha!

My cousin came to visit me! She took me out for dinner and I chose my favorite sushi restaurant! They had changed to omakase type. There’s buffet of crab, nabe and sushi for 90 minutes (4500yen each) but I did not like it.

5000 yen omakase crab dinner was worth the price tag, we ate to out fullest and was given extra grilled crab to thank me for always patronizing them lol! I gave up taking the photos as I was busy eating w my hands.

S took me a sushi restaurant Misawa and supposedly served local politicians. We went in without reservation and realized that it was almost fully booked that day.

Thank you everyone for making this year birthday a memorable day for me!
