Visit to Hacchi (Hachinohe Portal Museum)

Visited Hacchi after lunch and was amazed that it was pretty interesting to spend 1 hour plus learning and looking at various artwork created by local designers. It was 4 levels to explore and the 4th level has a free playroom for babies and kids! Very spacious and its free!

2nd level ceiling decorated with cute squid paper lanterns. Hachinohe port is famous for squid

the clock that will perform every half hour (did not wait for the timing)

Hachinohe festival artwork

Was intrigued by the figurines and artwork that seemed to replicate their movements

Upon further observation, the figurines were all created by local paper artist! very detail and delicate

Hachinohe local cider! 1 for 100 yen.

Trip to Hachinohe & Tanesashi Coast

S's good friend came to visit us, been 4 years since I saw him since our wedding. S would see him time to time if he happened to stop by Tokyo. First time that he came to Misawa and visit his ex-schools in Aomori. His family had moved to Yokohama after he graduated high school and he had not been back since.

Brought him around Hachinohe and Tanesashi Coast before he board his Shinkansen back to Tokyo.

Kushihiki Shrine.. Still in ruins after the fire

Tanesashi Coast, it was freezing and raining.. but there were people surfing in the ocean

Aftermath of Summer Visit

Was happily returning back home after sending off my friend at the airport, preparing to rest and take a short nap. Did the first thing which was to release Hideji out from his room. Saw the pile of diarrhoea and vomit in the room.... Luckily his room was padded with baby mat but the water leaked to the floor, and Hideji did not stepped on either of the dump lol.

In the midst of clearing his room, he vomited twice again along the walkway to our rooms (phew! just nice on the baby mat). Brought him to the pet clinic and did all sorts of tests (poo test, stomach scan etc)... No results... Confirmed with the vet that no new food or snack been introduced to him but our friends did came to visit and he barked at them for 3 days. In the end, the vet concluded that should be the reason. Too stressful for him... As Hideji viewed the house as part of his territory, having strangers walking around for such long time was too much for him...

Faint... never think my dog (Shiba) is so delicate....Vet also commented that Hideji is too nice and gentle that Hideji has a tendency to accumulate his stress.....

Summer Visit from Frens! Part 1

S's friend came to visit us for their annual fishing marathon again! This time... he brought his wife along! Got married this year but yet to hold the wedding ceremony. They were stunned by the new house and they got to sleep on the first level (my parents in law area) all by themselves. The bad part was throughout the 3 days, Hideji was barking at them non stop whenever they appeared on our second level premises. If they continued to sit in the living room with no sudden movement (like standing up etc), Hideji would relax next to them but if they stood up to go to the toilet. Hideji would sprang to action and began barking. This went on for 3 days especially S's friend O as he was out all day with S for fishing. On other hand, O's wife was accompanying me whenever I took Hideji out for walks and was constantly in the house. At the third day, he stopped barking at O's wife when she appeared at our level for breakfast!

raining raining raining

Belly dance performance, its was freezing cold!

S waiting for his Mojito

Escaped from the rain and eating at Kadoya

trying to get Hideji to obey his commands

Not a problem with bribery of snacks but ..... Hideji was still growling at him yet obeying his commands for the sake of the treats

Bye Bye Friend

Sent my friends off as they moved back to Okinawa. So sad!! My first Japanese friend that I made in Misawa and often make initiative to meet up. I used my poor Japanese and she always try to understand. Even my first visit to get contact lenses in Japan, she was willing to bring me along and explained to me when I did not understand the staff. So sad to see her go!!!!

Nagisa Cafe @ Hachinohe

Volunteered once with my Japanese sensei @ Aomori last year, we were to give out flyers to get them to try Japanese bento (made by famous chef that has her cafe in Hachinohe and she will go around Japan showcasing her cooking). Headed down to Hachinohe and visited her cafe. The lunch focus using various types of vegetables and appealing enough to want to eat it (at least for me that doesn't like vegetables so much). Have to visit again!

Operating Hours: 11 am - 3pm (Last order @ 2.30pm)
Closed on every Sunday and public holidays

Its located opposite road of スシロー behind all the big stores

We went early and customers started coming in around 12.30pm

Healthier version of pho (1200 yen? 1300 yen?), S loved it

Japanese version of Nasi goreng (1400 yen) the vegetables was too much for me, got S to help me finish

Extra order of yuzu soda juice (300 yen if order with lunch set)

Misawa Tanabata Festival 2017

Went with my friend to last day of Misawa Tanabata Festival. For the past week, it has been drizzling on and off and the weather was cold. Unlike summer at all. It should be my first time I visited the festival on the last day as some of the stalls reduced the price of the food. 100 yen - 200 yen cheaper!

Thai noodles (300 yen instead of 500 yen as it was the last day), Towada dumplings (so juicy!) and grilled half chicken

Crunchy Apple spring rolls, more like dessert so tasty! But brought it @ 300 yen, walked back awhile later and discovered it decreased price to 200 yen....

Rabbit Hideji!
