KANO 1931 海の向こうの甲子園

Went to watch the movie Kano, "Kano" is set in 1931 in Taiwan, where a local high school baseball team takes a ship to Kobe, Japan, to play that summer in the annual Koshien High School tournament.  Based on true story, the movie will tell the story of a high school baseball team comprised of three ethnic groups and one tough Japanese coach. Was moved by their never give up spirit. It was filmed by Taiwanese director and wrote by same producer who had wrote Cape No. 7 (海角七號, 2008).

While heading back home late at night (10plus), the GPS went crazy and wouldn't detect the road. All the shops were closed and its was pretty dark. Whenever S tried to follow the GPS route, it turned out to be those narrow lanes and cemeteries appearing beside him. Both of us were kinda of freaking out, I didn't want to spend the night beside cemetery in Hachinohe! Luckily the GPS was up and working after a while (might be due to the earthquake happened earlier and not some paranormal phenomena! ).

snacks that i brought, scallops (yummy), cheese (yet to try) and yakitori (sucks).

Loving movie song, surprisingly have Taiwan singer 范逸臣 as well.

Crazy Lumpia @ Misawa

Yesterday was not our day. Wanted to have lunch at North 40-40 and drove there thinking it opened at 11am. In fact, it started from 11.30am. Hence we went somewhere else to pass time and saw the Filipino cafe - Crazy Lumpia was opened. Went in to get their menu and told the lady we be back tomorrow and drove back to North 40-40. In the end, they were having a gathering so the whole place was booked sigh!! Drove back to Sky Plaza again and had our lunch at Crazy Lumpia. Upon ordering, i accidentally pronounced Shanghai Lumpia to Shanghai Rumba. Lousy S been teasing me mercilessly non-stop ever since then. Argh!!!

Chinese New Year

I am going to write something thats totally unrelated to Chinese New Year lol! Just that today is the first day of Chinese New Year so wishing everyone have a good year ahead! For Valentine Day, since S has been constantly nagging how he did not receive anything from me on V day. Since ladies are supposed to give the guy on 14 Feb then the guy will return the favour one month later on White Day. To me just a marketing gimmick for couples to spend more and companies will be secretly laughing away and counting their sales revenue. Giving in to his relentless murmuring, i brought chocolates. Nice and of course expensive!

Chocolates from Shiroi Mori 1800yen

having lunch in Misawa Base on Vday. Typical american food.

dun like mine so much, only could finish half of the burger

this is delicious.

All sorts of all you can take!

Japanese has a very unique culture of 詰め放題 (all you can take). I did not realised it until i saw it myself. In Singapore i have never seen anything like that, usually its just buffet 食べ放題  or 飲み放題 (all you can eat or drink). But here this special culture is very common and interesting (at least in my eyes lol). Usually when they have such event, you will be given a medium sized transparent plastic bag and as long you can fit everything inside it or even make it pouring out but yet manage not make it fall out of the bag then everything is yours for the flat rate. We done it once for the socks (in the end he managed to fit 18 men's socks for 500 yen (sin $6) and you really need technique to be able to fit as many as possible. Then this type usually will attract alot grannies and grandpas so everyone will be looking at each other to see who can stuff more haha!

some of different types i found online.

Hirosaki Snow Festival 2015

Drove all the way to Hirosaki (2.5 hrs one way) as he had tasks to complete. But what a wrong day to start, the weather was terrible with snow blizzard under -5 degree at least so you can imagine how bad was it. Luckily nothing bad happened along the way. We visited the Hirosaki Snow Festival and was thoroughly disappointed. All the sculptures were covered in snow, we hardly know what were the characters and we walked quite a distance yet there were nothing much haha! Think it would be nicer and more romantic in the night with all the lights. Oh well, it was still the 1st time for us to visit the castle during the winter.  Drove to Aomori where okaasan served us delicious nabe (hotpot)!

the actual road conditions was 3 times worse than it look in the pic

cannot see anything  without snow on our face

fake funashi become fujiji but can't see how it looks

Back to Aomori

Went back to Aomori as he had scheduled appointment with the officials. While waiting for him, we went to Aomori A-Factory to pass our time. Inside have tons of apple related products, sushi stand and pie store. We chose strawberry and apple pie. The apple pie was delicious! Strongly recommend all of u to try it if you have the time! Sometimes i looked at my husband and was amazed by his ability to talk non-stop. He doesn't seem to be tired at all lol! Towards me half of the time he was nagging and teasing me, he really enjoyed making me boiled up and stopped just when i was about to erupt. I jokingly told my mum that i came to Japan to escape from my brother (who also yak and yak non stop at home), only to find out that my husband is the same pattern!

only remembered to take picture after we finished all the pies.

scone is so so for me. Too hard

having dinner at Okaasan house. yummy!

my 1st time eating such big strawberries! from my okaasan as well!

Met fellow sporean

When i was back from Tokyo trip, i realised someone left message on my blog stating he/she is staying in Misawa now. I was wondering if it is real or fraud. Since from the message, i was not able to guess if the the person is man or woman. We started messaging on facebook and she invited me over for lunch. She cooked way better than me and my favourite curry chicken! Yum Yum! I brought cakes over since my cooking sucks lol! It great to hangout with fellow mates and talk about common topics back at home! Its a pity they will not stay for long in Misawa and will move on to next base in March :( Nevertheless i have 1 more friend now!

His annual award 2014

In case you are wondering why he keep getting award again. Just to clarify the annual award he received previously is related to this award as well. Their award starts from the bottom when they compete within a smaller group then if he wins, it will compete again in semi level then if he wins yet again, he will go and compete for final round. So this time he won the semi level again, he will be competing in final round which has yet have any news.
This time i went in his place as he had reservist duties and i dragged Kristi along. Without her company, i would not have go anyway. Way too awkward, 3 hours with strangers (the fire station chief, his american colleagues and their wives). They tried to make it easier for us, talking to us and Chief walked along with me to the stage. 3 hours sitting there and having to walk from the last table to the stage (total 30 tables, ALL AMERICANS) was no joke. I had to walked up twice, 1 for award, 2nd for photo taking. I refused to go up for the 3rd time, since the award winners were being called out so all the guests can cheer for them again.
Like the mean wife, i told Kristi, half of me hope Shota did not win so I do not have to be centre of attraction, another half of course hope he can win because he deserve it lol!

His superiors

they brought along the fire truck for support!

Thank you Chief for walking me up!

trying to pass time fast p

A great honour but why my arm so big! arghh!

I was the only wife that went to collect the award and i was super nervous. felt super out of placed
